Our cattle are raised their entire lives on pasture and hay. In the summer months we grow what is called sorghum silage. We use sudan grass. We raise it without the use of pesticides and we only use chicken litter for fertilizer. It is a beautiful thing growing in the field and is very good for the cattle. While it is still growing and fresh, we chop it up and then pile it up for the winter time feed. It is high in protein and digestibility and the animals love it. After all of the cutting of our silage is complete, we move many of the cattle into that field to clean up the remains of the silage. Loads of good eating. This also is a great way of fertilizing the field. Our cattle has hay at free choice year round. We were the first people up here in our area to use silage and now all of our neighbors are starting to do it. There are different types of silage such as corn silage, etc. but ours is made completely with fresh sudan grass. My husband and his dad made silage many years ago and it is a great feed.

Skirts are great for any mexican dish or to throw on the grill for a quick dinner. Skirts require a little work. Marinate with something acidic (lime, lemon or pineapple juice, red wine or apple cider vinegar) and tenderize with a meat mallet or something of the sort. They have a fenced in land parcel of 20 acres and even then they sneak out sometimes and venture beyond the fencing. Especially the little ones. In the woods they love to root for acorns and roots. In the pastures they enjoy a diet of fresh grass and bugs. They spend all of their time outside in the fresh air. Our pigs and hogs are not the picture that they are sometimes portrayed. They are not fat and lazy. They are muscled up from all of their chasing each other and playing. They are very sociable animals and seem to enjoy human contact. They are our most enjoyable animal on our farm. The health benefits of pastured pork are numerous. They are raised of course without the use of antibiotics or artificial growth hormones. We naturally raise our favorite breeds and they are prized by both professional and home chefs. The humane treatment of all of our animals is our main priority and we are fortunate to have our own usda facility right here on the farm. You have most likely never tasted pork like ours and you will taste the difference. We are pleased to be offering you our pastured pork.
