Eggs - DelawareGrower: Lazy Willow Farm
Price: $4.50 ( 1 dozen )Available (Exact): 2
This calm, friendly bird is listed as being critically endangered by the American Livestock Conservatory. The Delaware chicken is also listed on Slow Food's Ark of Taste. This heritage breed dates back to 1940. The only way to keep the Delaware alive and prospering is to eat their eggs! (Morbid, but true!) Our Delawares are free-ranged. The roosters have to fend off the hawks, but allows them to eat grass and bugs like chickens were meant to. Ben has created his own blend of grains that he freshly grinds and mixes daily. Absolutely NO antibiotics, hormones, fillers, or artificial anything! The Delaware eggs are a beautiful, rich, nut brown and the taste is glorious. Depending on how many bugs the hen ate that day, the yoke will be an impressively dark orange. Our hens are six months old and have just started to lay, so the eggs are medium and will increase in size as the hens grow. Help us save the Delaware!
