NEW HIGH SCHOOL INTERNS NEEDED!
We are currently accepting applications for two high school internship positions for our online market.
The Fall Semester internship requires the following:
- 3 hours of paid work at the online market every Tuesday afterschool
- a volunteer farm work day, scheduled for a Saturday in the fall
- a volunteer community service day, to help with one of our many community events in the fall
- a school project or hobby that helps the student learn more about local foods
Applicants should apply online at augustalocallygrown.org. The positions are both in Evans and start in early August. Strong applicants will be service-oriented, with a good work ethic and commitment to learning more about local, sustainably grown foods.

SUMMER HEALTH FESTIVAL AT THE VEGGIE TRUCK MARKET – TUESDAY JULY 16TH
The Veggie Truck Farmers Market, Camp Veggie Truck, St Luke UMC, and students of the GRU School of Medicine will host a summer health festival at the market this Tuesday, 4:30-7. There will be children’s activities and cooking demos and maybe even a flash mob dance at 6pm (but shhh that’s a secret). Come buy your veggies and stay for the fun! Located in the courtyard at 309 Crawford Avenue, Augusta.
YOUTH CULINARY ARTS CLASSES AT FORT GORDON
Augusta Locally Grown will host another round of culinary arts classes for children of active duty military personnel. The classes will be on Wednesdays, 4:30pm to 6:00pm, at the CDC West on base, starting in August. To enroll, eligible families should contact the SKIES Program. This program is partially funded by the Augusta Arts Council.

THE BENDERDIGGER BEGINS
The Benderdigger will launch its first Columbia County based youth gardening program this Friday. The River Island Garden Project will involve children in that community in a weekly year-round gardening program. Funds from the Benderdinker help support this program. Master Gardener volunteers are more than welcome to help!

We are excited to kick-off the second half of our inaugural season of the Evans Towne Farmers Market. The market will continue every Thursday, 4:30p-7p, through October 24. Here’s the events schedule for Thursday, July 11:

THE BENDERDIGGER BEGINS – The Benderdigger will launch its first youth gardening pilot project in the River Island community of Evans this month. The Benderdigger uses funds raised at the Benderdinker to create local youth gardening projects in partnership with Augusta Locally Grown. The River Island Garden Project will feature “hugelkulture” raised beds to demonstrate the benefits of an organic, low-water system. VEGGIE TRUCK FARMERS MARKET UPCOMING EVENTS:
Tuesday, JULY 9 — “HOLY SMOKES BBQ” … the sale of bbq dinners during the farmers market (4:30pm-7pm) will benefit outreach youth programs at St. Luke UMC.
Tuesday, July 16 — “SUMMER HEALTH FESTIVAL” … lots of fantastic energy and efforts is going into the planning of this event by GRU medical students. The event will also celebrate the last day of Camp Veggie Truck. Cooking demos, kids fitness activities and lots of healthy fun will be had during the market hours of 4:30pm-7pm. There might even be a flash mob dance at 6pm (but ssshhh … that’s a secret!)
