FIVE FARM TOUR – May 18-19
There are a few tickets left for our Five Farm Tour on May 18-19. A comprehensive flyer of the two-day event is now available at augustalocallygrown.org under “Events.” Call Kim before May 15 if you’d like to purchase tickets.

SOUTHERN SWISS DAIRY TORNADO RECOVERY FUND:
Two recent fundraisers successfully brought in contributions to the Southern Swiss Dairy Tornado Recovery Fund. The Local Foods Dinner at the Brick Pond Market and the Tink’s Burger Stand at the Benderdinker both earmarked 100% of their profits to the recovery efforts. Hugs to Charleen Tinley of Culinary Connections for heading up the former; more hugs to Landon Dawson and Tink Wade for spearheading the later. More fundraising efforts for this fund are in the works.

BENDERDIGGER FUND:
Augusta Locally Grown is very grateful to have received its portion of the Benderdinker event. This money has been earmarked for the “BenderDigger Fund,” which will be dedicated to helping young people learn about growing foods using sustainable practices. Hugs to Kristina Williams for her vision and hard work.

BYNE BLUEBERRY FARM ALL-DAY FARM WORKSHOP:
Byne Blueberry Farm of Waynesboro – one of the oldest organic blueberry farms in the country – will host an all-day sustainable agriculture “Field Day” on Tuesday, May 28. Soil management, pruning, mulching, composting, irrigation, pollination, beekeeping and some livestock management will all be offered as hands-on workshops that day. The price is $25 for the whole day and includes a meal and a tshirt. The BENDERDIGGER Fund will offer 2 scholarships to cover the workshop cost for two area college students interested in sustainable farming. To apply for the $25 workshop scholarship, please email your letter of request (with a description about your farming experience and interests) to kim@augustalocallygrown.org. Applications will be reviewed and awarded May 21.

THANK YOU TO OUR CHEFS FOR THE COOKING DEMOS:
Big thanks to all the folks who have been doing cooking demos and healthy samples at the Evans Towne Farmers Market and, soon, the Veggie Truck Farmers Market. What wonderful gifts you bring!

See you all at the markets on Tuesday and/or Thursday.
