The Butchery – or “Boucherie” in French – is an age-old tradition. Friends, neighbors and family members gather to help butcher livestock and preserve meat in the fall, assuring that all parts of the animals are used for sustenance.

THE AUGUSTA LOCALLY GROWN MARKET IS OPEN

UPCOMING!

SOUPER KIDS CAFÉ – SAT, NOV 10
Augusta Locally Grown will team up with a slew of community volunteers to create an outdoor, pop-up “Souper Kids Café” for residents of the Lake Olmstead Housing Community in Augusta. This event will engage 30-40 children in the cooking of six big pots of vegetable-based soups to feed 100 people community-style. Volunteers include Chef Charleen Tinley of Culinary Connections, several professionals from the Augusta Dieticians Association, as well as medical students from GHSU and volunteers of the Harrisburg Veggie Truck Initiative. If you’d like to help underwrite the cost of veggies for this project, please make a donation to the Veggie Truck through our on-line market.

POULTRY SWAP & SALESAT, NOV 10
Hobby Farmers of the CSRA will sponsor a live Poultry Swap & Sale on Saturday, November 10, from 10am-2pm. The event will be held in the parking lot at Tractor Supply on Bobby Jones Parkway. This is a great opportunity to invest in some backyard poultry, and to learn from others who share your interests. For more information, call David Young at 706-799-1841.

TAILGATING WITH COOKBOOK AUTHOR VIRGINIA WILLISSUN, NOV 18
Augusta Locally Grown has signed on as a partner for the Columbia County Library event called “Tailgating with Virginia Willis.” This event will feature the once-local, now-famous cookbook author as she prepares some of her recipes.
