Japanese knotweed flowers are valued by some beekeepers as an important source of nectar for honeybees, at a time of year when little else is flowering. Japanese knotweed yields a monofloral honey, usually called bamboo honey by northeastern U.S. beekeepers. This is like a mild-flavored version of buckwheat honey. This honey has a pleasant sweet taste to it. All of our honey is 100% pure U.S. honey - there is no blending or alteration done to any of our honey!

YOUR DONATION WILL HELP SUPPORT OUR EDUCATIONAL "KIDS LOCAL FOODS COOKING CLASSES" AT FORT GORDON. Kim Hines of Augusta Locally Grown currently teaches a weekly cooking class for the children (ages 5-15) of active duty military personnel. Hands-on classes focus on seasonality, local ingredients, variety and taste. Each session ends with an “eat and critique” session in which parents are invited to sit and eat with the children when the dish is ready. This program is funded primarily by a grant administered by the Augusta Arts Council. However, there are some costs that are not covered, primarily the cost of staple items like flours, oils and spices, as well as student aprons. Your donation would help cover these costs.

Semester requirements include: * work 3 hours weekly at one of our markets for a small stipend * volunteer at one of our community events * complete a volunteer work-visit at a local farm * incorporate the topic of local foods into a project Donations help cover the cost of intern tshirts, training and transportation to farm work days. In the year 2012, this program will engage 16 high school interns from public school, private school and home school settings.

YOUR DONATION WILL HELP SUPPORT OUR EDUCATIONAL EFFORT CALLED "THE VEGGIE PARK FARMERS MARKET." “The Veggie Park” was launched in July 2012 in the Harrisburg community of Augusta. The educational effort began as a veggie-sampling neighborhood activity. The Veggie Truck will continue to expand its programs to include a farmers market, healthy cooking classes and childrens gardens. The Veggie Truck Farmers Market is scheduled to begin in April 2013. This weekly market will feature, fresh, natually-grown, local foods from farmers committed to food accessibility. The Veggie Truck Farmers Market will accept SNAP/EBT benefits. In partnership with Wholesome Wave Georgia the market will double the value of SNAP benefits for healthy food purchases. Community Partners include St. Luke’s Methodist Church, Good Neighbor Ministries and medical student volunteers from Georgia Regents University School of Medicine and Augusta Locally Grown. Donations help cover the cost of sample foods.
